HERE'S WHAT KIA AND HYUNDAI COULD LEARN FROM THE DESIGN OF THE 2023 GENESIS GV60

When it comes to hot new compact electric cars, the reasonably affordable Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are hard to beat. The Genesis GV60 is a premium EV that threatens the cheaper $41,450 Ioniq 5 and $48,700 EV6 through its great design. Interestingly, Kia’s more affordable circa-$42,000 ‘Light’ base model is no longer available online.

Graphic artist TheSketchMonkey on YouTube thinks that the GV60 is one of the best-looking and most well-design electric cars out there in 2023, and in his latest video he once again critiques the model from the ground up, offering plenty of views of this classy compact EV crossover.

We find out via the video review whether it might be worth paying $10,000 more on top of the EV6, for the sharp-looking Genesis GV60.

The 2023 Genesis GV60: A Good Electric Car, But It Comes At A Cost

Genesis’ compact crossover is less affordable than the Kia and the Ioniq 5 – it starts at $59,000 for the base model and goes up to $68,000 for the Performance pack, but both models have AWD courtesy of two motors. This video focuses on the Performance model, which has 429 hp and a 77-kWh battery for 235 miles of range.

A high-3-second 0-60 mph time and a ‘boost’ button for temporary boosts of acceleration (thanks to the 483 hp burst) show that this car has the figures right. But TheSketchMonkey (T.S.M) is focusing on its physical figure: that of its original, head-turning design. Straight away, the Hanauma Mint color is striking, as well as the clean, curvy body of the Genesis. He points out the lights, which are one of the highlights of the exterior styling; thin, compact units stacked separately from each other which create a new kind of look.

Up front, he spends time analyzing the grille and shape, while the rear is similarly elegant-yet-quirky with small details and accents, such as the ‘V’ shape in the rear ‘C’ pillar.

How Much Is The Genesis GV60 To Buy?

Genesis is a premium brand under the Hyundai parent conglomerate, which explains its platform getting shared with the EV6 and Ioniq 5. T.S.M mentions that the Genesis GV60 electric car got designed by Luc Donckerwolke who is responsible for nameplates like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago, which is maybe why the GV60 has something a little special in its quirky, off-beat style, that still manages to be elegant, clean and premium-looking.

As we can see, the wheels are dramatic and original, adding some spice to an uncomplicated design. Inside though, Genesis really turns up the quality in this compact electric car: it has two 12.3” screens, excellent seat trim design and one of the quirkier things you might ever encounter – a rotating crystal ball that serves either as a light-up ornament, or a gear selector.

The Genesis GV60 doesn’t want to copy the Kia EV6, it wants to wow you with its attention to detail and quirky elegance. But most nice things come at a price. This $68,000-Genesis GV60 impresses T.S.M either way.
